Roxy in The Box presenta un’installazione composta da un manichino di sesso maschile abbigliato con una gonna a campana illuminata. Questo capo d’abbigliamento è adornato da una stampa che ritrae delle figure umane recanti un bendaggio nero sugli occhi mentre sulle loro teste campeggiano brani tratti dalla poesia di Emily Dickinson “The Soul has bandaged moments”. Anche il manichino ha il volto parzialmente celato da un bendaggio nero.
L’intera opera fa riferimento ad una situazione di costrizione dell’io, accentuata dalle politiche societarie e di mercato che sin troppo spesso costringono ogni singolo individuo all’alienazione ed alla trasformazione in mero manichino all’interno di una massa senza forma.
In questo drammatico quadro della situazione, Roxy in the Box accende però una speranza, una luce interiore che simboleggia la presenza di un’anima in grado di ribaltare le sorti di un destino uniformato.

Le mille bolle blu, colorate e gioiose cantate da Mina, sono proprio da archiviare. Con Roxy in the Box (Napoli, 1967) il motivo è diventato un jingle da discoteca, il sapone è ora gomma da masticare e il mondo regala sogni solo a chi afferma la propria immagine con glamour e sex-appeal, senza rimanere soffocato dalla polvere di stelle nell’universo di vanity fame costruitosi.
Si sviluppa così un concetto a tratti autobiografico -di arte e amore, verità e bugie, illusioni e falsità- che lega tra loro quattro opere pittoriche, un video e una video-chat. Si schiudono sulla parete, come i petali di un fiore, i 42 tondi ad acrilico su tavola di Message in a Bubble, un luogo circoscritto dove l’immaginazione diviene un medium per raffigurare persone e personaggi. Volti sconosciuti di chi resiste, vincendo battaglie personali, di chi chiedendo un abbraccio fa da contrappunto alla voglia di condividere in Sharing bubbles, mentre per qualcun altro The bubble has burst, il sogno o l’incantesimo della vita è scoppiato mettendo a nudo la durezza della realtà. Messaggi d’amore e speranza sono contenuti invece nella coppia che soffia su una nuova bolla in Forever, tutti caratterizzati da scritte brevi, da leggere in velocità come uno slogan pubblicitario, con una grafica riconducibile a quella dei comics, dei font da spot e da computer.
